All about Christchurch

We are learning about our own backyard! (Christchurch)
Here are some facts about Christchurch!!
1.It is the largest city in the South Island, and the 3rd largest urban area in the country in terms of population 
2.The population of Christchurch is around 350,000.
3.The nickname of Christchurch is the “Garden City” owing to its large botanic gardens and central park.
4.Archaeological evidence suggests that Christchurch was first settled by Maori in the 13th Century.
5.Christchurch was the first place in New Zealand to officially become a city; this occurred on July 31, 1856.
6.The 1974 Commonwealth Games were hosted in Christchurch. QEII Park (named after Queen Elizabeth II) 
7.Christchurch is named after a College in oxford named Christ Church.
8.Lyttleton was burned to the ground in 1870.
9.Christchurch is a earth quake zone.
10.hagley park is the third biggest green park in the world in christchurch!!!

  2. Hi Emalea it's Mikayla K I like how you did lots of facts about christchurch they are quiet interesting facts and I think they are cool.Maybe you could check twice because botanic gardens and central park should have capital letters.
