SLJ Day 1 Activity 1 and 2

Kia Ora Bloggers! It is the first day of the Summer Learning Journey, and the first thing we have to do is find three fun facts about New Zealand. Some I didn't even know! Do you know these? If you want to know where I got my information from here is the link... Link to Facts

Here is the first one: To become a New Zealand citizen you must swear an oath of loyalty to Queen Elizabeth. I never knew this!

Here is the second one: The Maori name of New Zealand is Aotearoa which means the Land of the Long White Cloud. This is interesting!

The Last one: The largest city in New Zealand is Auckland although its Wellington. Wellington is the capital because the prime minister works there in the Beehive. It is not a real Beehive though.  Image result for bee hive wellington

Well that's all from me I hope you enjoyed and learnt something new! Bye!

Malo e lelei, This is the second activity for the Summer Learning Journey, and it is about your hometown. What's your hometown? Mine is Christchurch also known as Garden City. It is a really nice place. There are lots of suburbs around Christchurch, also loads of food places to eat and there are lots of places to shop.

There is one spot in Christchurch that is called "The Square" and it is in the center of Christchurch. Do you have a main point in your hometown? The population of Christchurch is 374,900. That is a lot! Is your hometown population more or less? Now here is some facts I learnt:
On July 31st 1856 Christchurch became the first official city in New Zealand and it grew faster as more European people arrived
It is the largest city in the South Island and the 3rd biggest population
Christchurch had a HUGE deadly earthquake in 2011 that killed 185 people! That is so bad!
Do you have any interesting facts about your hometown? Some of these I didn't even know! But now I do. Did you? Well That's all I have for this post I hope you learnt something and know something now, Bye for now!

  1. Mōrena Emalea!

My name is Mikey and I will be commenting on your Summer Learning Journey posts this year. I'm excited to read your blog in the coming weeks and get to know a little bit about you :)

I really like the way you've introduced your activities, Emalea. You've done well to draw me in and engage me in your post from the very beginning. You've chosen some great facts about New Zealand. I particularly like the one about our country's Māori name. One of my favourite facts about New Zealand is that we have the steepest street in the world! (Baldwin Street in Dunedin. Have you been?)

Wow! Your hometown sounds amazing! I've never been to Christchurch myself but you've definitely made me want to visit. Can you recommend any activities I should do when I visit? I come from a small town in the North Island called Kororāreka (Russell). There's not as many places to eat and shop as there is in Christchurch but there are lots of beautiful beaches, which is great because one of my favourite things to do in the summer is swim. What do you like doing in the summer? I really like how you've included some fun facts about your hometown in your post, and how you've asked lots of questions.

Well done for including a link to where you sourced your information. It's important to reference where you've gotten your info from. Just a quick tip for sharing pictures on your blog - make sure that you attribute any images you've used to the website you got them from. Here's a link to help with that:

You've made a great start to the Summer Learning Journey Programme, Emalea. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts soon :)

    1. Hi Mikey,
Thank you for commenting on my blog! I actually have been to Baldwin Street and I ran the whole way. If you want to go on the Gondola it is a great view! Also there is mountain biking on the "Port Hills" There is a Zoo called Orana Park and it has loads of animals like: Gorillas, Giraffes Lions and more. I go to the beach at the Summer and I spend time with my family. I hope you enjoyed reading my blog, Bye!
